Wednesday 10 June 2026 Our grounds and the wildflowers! We are so fortunate to have so much grounds at James Hornsby, and we're trying hard to make sure we use them well for the students, staff and the environment. Here is just a small selection of the wildflowers you can see around the site at the moment.Letting our grass grow long increases habitats for wildlife, and these wildflowers improve life for many different species of invertebrates, particularly pollinators… and it can bring a great deal of joy to anyone who takes a moment to stop and look.#JamesHornsby #JamesHornsbyFamily #Zenith

This is to support an increase in #Biodiversity on the school grounds. We're also using 4 raised beds for a college competition. Both Atlantis and Discovery have got an early start by including plants with their college colours, despite some opposition from the fox that roams the grounds!Let's see how the competition develops!#JamesHornsby #JamesHornsbyFamily #Zenith

Tuesday 19 May 2026 Bletchley Park Trip Our #Year7 students had a fantastic opportunity to see #Maths in action during their visit to the world-famous Bletchley Park! The day began with an interactive codes and ciphers workshop, where students explored the mathematical principles behind encryption. They investigated patterns, logical reasoning, and problem-solving techniques used to encode and decode messages—just as mathematicians and codebreakers did during World War II. From substitution ciphers to frequency analysis, students discovered how maths underpins communication and security. 🔍📊Applying their classroom learning in a real-world context, students worked collaboratively to crack challenging codes, demonstrating resilience, critical thinking, and precision—key skills in mathematics. 💡The tour of the site reinforced how vital mathematical thinking was to historic breakthroughs, including the work of Alan Turing and his team, who used mathematical models and algorithms to help

Wednesday 6 May 2026 Well done Summer! We were extremely proud to support Summer at the regional final of the #JackPetcheySpeakOut competition recently. Some of our year 10 students were invited to participate in a full day workshop that focussed on developing their public speaking skills. In previous years, giving this confidence has proved really beneficial for the spoken component of their English Language GCSE exam in year 11.Travelling to the regional final which was held at Moulsham High School in Chelmsford was a great opportunity and Summer was a fantastic ambassador for #JamesHornsby as she gave her speech in front of past winners and the Mayor of Chelmsford.#JamesHornsbyFamily #Zenith
