The James Hornsby School

British Council International School Award success

British Council International School Award success

The James Hornsby School has been awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom. The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education.

Sir Ciarán Devane, CEO of the British Council, said:

‘The school’s fantastic international work has rightfully earned it this prestigious award. The International School Award is a great chance for schools to demonstrate the important work they’re doing to bring the world into their classrooms. Embedding an international dimension in children’s education ensures that they are truly global citizens and helps prepare them for successful lives and careers in an increasingly global economy.’

Miss Pellat, International Co-Ordinaror at the school said:

The James Hornsby School’s international work covers a variety of activities across the school curriculum such as the Build Africa Project, PSHE with work on refugees and our work on Climate Change in the Humanities faculty. We also have links to two French Schools who our students regularly correspond with (pictured).  The international dimension has firmly been embedded in our school’s curriculum and whole-school ethos, promoting citizenship, foreign language learning and appreciation for cultural diversity across the school and wider community. Our international work involved different subject areas, teachers and age groups throughout the academic year This has enabled our students to learn about different countries and their cultures in a curriculum-based context as well as addressing some key issues.”

Mr Steel, Headteacher of James Hornsby said:

‘We are incredibly proud to receive this award. It is great recognition for all the hard work both students and staff have put in to achieve this’

The award, which celebrates its 20th Anniversary this year, is now available worldwide in countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Lebanon, Nigeria, and Pakistan. Over 6000 International School Awards have been presented to successful schools in the UK since the scheme began in 1999.
