The James Hornsby School

Phonics at the JHS

Phonics @JHS

Why are we doing this?

Evidence shows that teaching phonics is the best way to teach children to read words. Children are taught explicitly the correspondences between letters (graphemes) and sounds (phonemes), and this is done in a specific order; the sounds which are most common and used most frequently are taught first.
