Cllr Ball and Clare Kershaw, Director of Education tour the school to discuss reading!

Last week, as part of the #JamesHornsbyYearOfReading and the #Essex #YearOfReading we had the pleasure of having Cllr Ball and Clare Kershaw, director of education, take a tour of the school to discuss reading, both within the classroom and across our school community, and how it is the key to unlocking the curriculum for our learners.
 
We discussed our whole school approach to reading including how we teach reading for purpose and support reading in the classroom; how we engage our learners in reading for pleasure beyond the classroom and how we offer bespoke targeted interventions to ensure all learners at The James Hornsby School meet or exceed their chronological reading age. We took the opportunity to showcase our new book vending machine initiative, library in the Lobby and how our students use the new learning forum.
